Education

Recent graduate of Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI. Graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BS in English Writing and minors in Legal Studies and Environmental Studies.

Experience

Worked for two years as an English tutor and writing specialist in Viterbo's Learning Center. Prior to working as a writing specialist, I took a course in tutoring writing at the College level, which I found to be incredibly helpful in formulating an effective tutoring practice. I scored 4's on both my AP Lit and Language tests, 156 on my LSAT. I would like to tutor because I enjoy sharing my knowledge with students and helping them to achieve their best. In addition to tutoring, I've worked for the State of Alaska, as a campaign organizer, and as an intern in the office of United States Senator Lisa Murkowski. I was a member and student leader of Viterbo's Honors Program. In the spring of 2011 I was awarded the St. Catherine's Medal, an award given to a student that represents the high ideals of a Catholic education. I was also awarded the Cardinal Newman award for the best Senior English Thesis. I've presented research at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research (2010 and 2011), the National Collegiate Honors Conference (2010), Seven Rivers Undergraduate Research Symposium (2009 and 2010), and Streamlines Literature Confernce (2009). Two of my poems ("Frontotemporal Dementia" and "Evensong") and a short short story have been published in the art and literary magazine, Touchstone.

Hobbies

I'm a big nerd, there's no getting around it. I love learning and have devoted most of my life to it. I will be attending law school starting in the fall of 2012 and will be studying international or public interest law there. I have a burgeoning interest in politics and government, renaissance literature, any history (seriously, any at all. I love it.), and I've recently discovered an interest in theology. BUT, all of that aside, I'm also an avid movie-goer. I write a review blog with a former classmate of mine; film and television are definitely an interest of mine. Music, of all kinds, is great too. I listen to just about anything, so long as it's good (yes, good is a subjective term, so I'll just say that I'm very openminded when it comes to music.) I grew up in a musical home: I sing and play the cello, and it's a big part of my life. I also love playing sports, specifically basketball and volleyball. I played basketball while at college and maintain an active lifestyle now. Get me started on football and you could be in for a very long conversation. All in all, I'd say that while I'm a dedicated student, I know how to manage my time efficiently and effectively and still find time to have fun. I understand the challenges of finding this balance and would love to work with any student that needs my assistance.
